Thoughts on Prayer: A Great Light—Part One
(Excerpt from Thoughts on Prayer : A Journey in the Land of Father’s Love )
A phrase from Isaiah 9:2 and Matthew 4:16 has been running around in my head all month: “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light…” I have been mulling and churning over this verse for weeks. It won’t let me be.:) The challenge has become how to narrow the focus. There is so much! And it’s all sooo good. God is good.
LIGHT… God created it first even before He created the sun and moon and stars. It separates. Much like the double edge sword of the Word/word of God.
LIGHT… It marks time and helps order our days. When God created the sun and moon we had day and night. He gave us 24 hour increments to steward that which He has given to our care.
LIGHT… Reveals. It shows where we are; if we’re looking for direction. Have you ever been on one of those cave tours where the guide turns out the light? What’s the first thing you do? I, for one, look for light. I am lost and disoriented without it.
LIGHT… Gives sight and can also blind.
LIGHT… Guides. While journeying through the wilderness, God provided fire by night to show the Israelites their path.
LIGHT… Heals. The gamma ray/knife, x-ray, laser, etc are all used in medicine. X-rays and ultra sounds are used to diagnose and reveal the site of a potential problem. The gamma ray/knife
and laser excise, repair and heal the disease and sickness in our bodies. The laser has proven invaluable in cosmetic and dermatology applications.
LIGHT… Dispels darkness. Need proof? Turn on a light. The darker the room the great the light shines. Ever noticed that? Light overcomes darkness.
LIGHT… Is a game changer. On September 2,1880 the first nighttime baseball game was played. It ended in a tie. It was deemed a failure and not likely to catch on.:)
LIGHT…Jesus is the Light of the world. He separates, creates order (God’s), reveals Father to us, guides us to Father, heals, clears out darkness (Read the book of Mark), definitely a game
Isaiah 9 continues… For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
Be blessed to see Him as the Light of
